According to Vastu, which direction should the mandir be in?

As a Vedic astrologer and Vastu consultant with more than 22 years of experience, I've noticed that whenever someone moves into a new home, one of the first questions they ask is, "Where should we place the mandir?"

According to Vastu Shastra, the North-East direction, also known as the Ishan Kona, is considered the best location for a home mandir. This corner is traditionally associated with spirituality, divine blessings, wisdom, and positive energy. That's why most Vastu experts recommend it for prayer, meditation, and daily worship.

That said, I always tell people not to panic if their home's layout doesn't allow a North-East mandir. Modern apartments don't always give us the luxury of choosing the perfect direction. In such cases, the East or North side of the home can also work well.

One thing I've learned from visiting countless homes over the years is that a peaceful prayer space matters more than chasing perfection. I've seen beautifully designed mandirs in the "right" direction that nobody uses, and I've seen small prayer corners in ordinary apartments that radiate positivity because the family genuinely spends time there every day.
