What is the Vimshottari Dasha system, and why is it central to predictions?

It's the primary tool used to time events in a person's life. It's based on which of the 27 nakshatras the Moon occupied at birth, and how far the Moon had already travelled through that nakshatra — which tells the astrologer how much of that nakshatra's ruling planet's dasha period was still "unused" at birth. The full cycle spans 120 years and moves through nine planets in a fixed order: Ketu (7), Venus (20), Sun (6), Moon (10), Mars (7), Rahu (18), Jupiter (16), Saturn (19), Mercury (17). This fixed sequence acts like a personal cosmic clock unique to each chart.
