Where should the kitchen be per vastu?

According to Vastu Shastra, the food prepared in the kitchen exerts an influence on the mind, body, and thoughts of every member of the household. Therefore, special importance has been given to the appropriate direction of the kitchen in ancient Vastu Shastra.

The kitchen in a house is not merely a place for making food, but it is the center of health and prosperity of the entire family.

According to Vastu Shastra, the most appropriate direction for the kitchen is considered to be South-east (Agneya). The ruling deity of the South-east direction is considered to be Agnidev (the Fire God). Since fire is utilized for cooking, this direction is naturally understood as favorable for the kitchen. If the kitchen is in the South-east direction, the positive energy in the house increases.

Alternative direction: if it is not possible to build the kitchen in the South-east direction, then the North-west direction is considered another good alternative; if the kitchen is in this direction, household chores run smoothly. Keeping the gas stove or cookstove in the South-east corner, the person cooking should preferably cook facing towards the East direction. The East direction is the direction of the Sun, and the Sun is a symbol of energy, health, and positivity.

In the kitchen, the sink and arrangements for drinking water should preferably be in the North or North-east direction. This is considered the direction of the water element, wealth, and positive energy. The lord of this direction is considered to be Kuber and the planet is Mercury.

In the center of the house lies the 'Brahmasthan'; the kitchen should not be here, as this can disturb the balance of the house.
