What if a chart has 5–6 Vargottama planets and 2 Pushkara planets? Does that automatically make a chart strong?

This is a common misconception in Vedic astrology that stacking up "good" technical placements automatically produces a powerful chart. It doesn't quite work that way.

Let's break down the terms first. A planet is called Vargottama when it sits in the same zodiac sign in both the Rashi chart (D1) and the Navamsha chart (D9). For example, if Jupiter is in Sagittarius in your D1 chart and also lands in Sagittarius in your D9 chart, that Jupiter is Vargottama. This is considered a genuinely auspicious placement because it shows consistency of that planet's energy across two important divisional charts.

A Pushkara Navamsha placement is another specific auspicious condition where a planet lands in certain degrees/signs considered especially nourishing and supportive.

So if a birth chart has 5–6 Vargottama planets and 2 Pushkara planets, that's certainly a notable, favorable technical configuration — but it does not automatically make the entire chart powerful or successful. Overall chart strength depends on far more than just these two factors: the individual dignity of each planet (exalted, own sign, debilitated), house lordships and how well or poorly those lords are placed, conjunctions and aspects from malefics or benefics, and the strength of the Ascendant and Ascendant lord.

Having many Vargottama or Pushkara planets is like having several strong individual players on a team — genuinely helpful, but it doesn't guarantee the team wins the match. The chart still needs to be read as a whole, holistically.
